BIBLE STUDY.
TOPIC: FAITH BY HEARING.
BIBLE READING: Acts 8:26 – 40
TEXT: Romans 10:17.
MEANING OF FAITH.
‘Faith’ means “belief, trust, or
confidence in someone or something.
The Bible gives the
best definition of faith in (Hebrews 11:1 )
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Faith comes by hearing,–(Romans 10:14)
So then faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.
Faith is a mystery – (1 Timothy. 3:9). A
mystery connotes God’s secret concealed in
scriptures.
Faith is essentially a spiritual
converter, it converts the word to power.-(Romans.1:1) Therefore, faith again can be
defined as the power point that enables us to
become what we have believed.
What Apostle Paul mean by “hearing” in this context, is
not simply the physical receiving of sounds
by the ear. We have to relate hearing with
the only source of real faith. Faith comes only in the most
natural and simple way, by hearing the Word.
In order for one to “call
on the name of the Lord, he or she must believe first.- (Hebrew 11:6)
For he that cometh to God, must believe that he is, and is a rewarder to them that seek him.
In order to believe, one must hear or receive
the report. And in order for one to hear, another
has to give the message.- (Act 8:26-40) v30 -31
So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading. And he said, How can I, unless someone guides me?
Consequently, faith comes from “
hearing the message, and the
message is heard through the word
about Christ. So, faith comes from
hearing the Good News about Christ.- (Act 8:34-35)
And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else. Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus.
NOTE:
Faith that leads
to eternal salvation comes after “hearing” That is; after receiving this message
concerning Christ. (Hebrews 11:1)
Faith is hard work.
Faith is reasoning with God in His word to determine your steps in this world so as to have your desires
delivered through believing.-(Philippians 2:16)
Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored
in vain.
HOW TO BUILD FAITH IN MEN:
1). The word of God must be heard.- (Romans 10:14) declares, “… how shall
they believe in him of whom they have not
heard? (Rom10:17) declares that faith is the
result of hearing God speak through the
information; the Bible was given for our
transformation.
2). The word of God must be shared (Mark 16:15)
“And he said unto them, ‘Go ye into all the world, andI preach the gospel to every creature’.”
(Romans 10:14-15) Says;
“How then shall they
call on him in whom they have not
believed? And how shall they believe in him
of whom they have not heard? And how
shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they are
sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the
feet of them that preach the gospel of peace.
3).The word of God must be studied, -In
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)
“All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: that the man
of God may be perfect,thoroughly
furnished unto all good works.”
4). Every Christian should own and read the bible (2 Timothy 2:1)
Study to show thyself
approved unto God, a workman that needs
not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word
of truth.
5). Faith bring salvation. In (Acts 4:20) says;
For we cannot but speak the
in order to learn the plan of salvation. The
things which we have seen and heard.”
6). Faith guide believers to please God – (Hebrew 1:6)
God has told us that without faith it is
impossible to please Him.
7). Faith brings expected result – The word of God
tells us about the woman with the issue of blood.
We are told that she had
spent all of her living and had gone to many
physicians, but “was nothing bettered, but
rather grew worse”(Mark 5:26).
Mark 5:27 and 28 say,
“When she had
behind, and touched his garment. For she
said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall
be whole” great faith”
And in verse 34 we read,
“And Jesus said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath
made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole
of thy plague.”
Where did this woman get faith to receive
healing? “When she had heard in (v. 27)
NOTE AGAIN: Faith is not by memorization the word of God and singing with it or a feeling.
We cannot force salvation upon anyone. Let’s continue to share the wonderful gift in
which we have received through Jesus.
CONCLUSION:
Faith comes by hearing” not a magic
formula. May our
words always be loving and point to the truth
of the Bible.
PRAYER:
May you continue to share the good news of Jesus Christ to others in Jesus name.
