BIBLE STUDY.
TOPIC: SEPARATE YOURSELF FROM MATERIAL POSSESSION UNTO GOD
BIBLE READING: Jeremiah 9:23-24.
TEXT: Genesis 19:26
INTRODUCTION:
Possession means the act of having and controlling belongings. It could be described it retentions, holdings, treasures and asset owned by an entity.
Possession is not only for physical things houses, Cars,Money, Certificates, family etc someone could have but also sovereignty, position, and powers.
Let it be known unto you today that all you have is thine – (Psalms 16:5)
> The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
Seperate yourself from your earthly material possessions. They are not yours but God and the earth.- (Psalms 24:1)
> The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Abraham was only able to sacrifice his only son because he separate himself from his great possessions unto God including the son.
When your heart is set on your possessions the place of God in your heart become cloistered.- (2 Timothy 2:4)
> No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
Nebuchadnezzar set his mind in his achievement as king of Babylonian and God dethroned him – (Daniel 4:30-31)
> The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
Also in our text today, the wife of Lot set her heart in Sodom and Gomorrah and she turned to look back and she becomes a pillar of salt – (Genesis 19:26)
> But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Specifically in Jeremiah 9:23 the lord warned us not to glory in our wisdom, might and riches (Jeremiah 9:23)
> Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
When your heart is centered in your possessions you cannot release them for God’s purpose. Jesus asked peter for the his ship and without hesitation he release it because he did not cling to it.
(Luke 5:3)
> And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
For example, long time ago in a Sunday service our generator had issues and the pastor asked me to run to one of our brothers house to borrow his generator. He told without minding words that he bought it for his personal use not church. That same brother letter left our parish for another telling people that the church is not helping members.
Be conscious that God giveth and therefore humble yourself before him and men. (1 Peter 5:6)
> Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
Colossians 3:23 says;
> And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.
CONCLUSION:
In your great possessions, acknowledge the facts that you are just a custodian of them. That one day you will be separated physically from them and He that gave you power to get them will allocate to whoever He chooses.
PRAYER:
May God take away
the foolishness of the rich and give us the wiseness of the humble even in our great possessions in Jesus name.
